Cry Havoc: Aftermath
I remember Cry Havoc being one of the hot games releasing at Gencon 2016. This asymmetric, area control game did not disappoint me or many others. Unfortunately, my Cry Havoc stayed on my shelf through most of 2017 because of new games releasing and any game, even the great ones, can get lost in this gaming renaissance we’re currently in. It was not until Essen 2017 that Portal Games released Cry Havoc: Aftermath, the first expansion.
Let’s take a look at what Aftermath adds to the base game and if it’s worth adding to your gaming collection.
Expansion Overview:
The Aftermath expansion increases options for each warring faction. You don’t have to use all the new additions, but a few will include new setup and/or play rules.
Each faction gains new skill cards (default and non-default) and new structures giving more options beyond the base game. Plus there are new terrain tactics ...
The war on planet York never changes. And why would it? It is a great war, waged in a great game Cry Havoc. The recent release of the first official expansion only proves, that when something works, you don’t break it, only add more.
And to celebrate that, we have compiled a lot of cool stuff about the game and released it last week. Let us show you, what we’ve prepared for you:

Ignacy wrote few articles about the mechanics of the expansion. You can read about the New Structures or about New Skills. He also posted a blog entry about brainstorming ideas with fans.
Galleries
There is a gallery full of awesome photos of the game, with a lot of cards and components, so you can see, what you’ll get in each box. We have also compiled a gallery of the sketches and artworks used in the ...
Aftermath expansion comes with 15 new Structures and 20 new skills. We discussed Structures in the previous article, today let me talk about new skills – in Aftermath each Faction gains 1 new Default skill and 4 standard ones.
Trogs
Distraction is their new Default skill. It allows Trogs to choose any Battle objective to pick it as resolved first. Order of some battles becomes uncertain for opponents. With Withdrawal skill, Trogs can move their forces from Battle Regions and with Kidnapping, they can discard the card from hand to take enemy Unit from matching terrain as a prisoner. From the Shadows allows them to grab enemy Units from adjacent Regions and also hold them as prisoners! Finally, Ancient Crystals allow Trogs to pick one Region and make it worth +3 VP in the next scoring.
As you can see, some abilities to surprise the enemy in battles, some skills to gain ...

In this article, we’d like to present you what type of Structures you’ll find in the Aftermath expansion and how they change the game. What new powers and abilities we prepared for your beloved factions and how they influence the gameplay! Let’s start!
Trogs
Trogs have those precious Regions in the center of the board and they want to defend them, right? That’s why we gave them SWAMP FIELDS structure that changes regular terrain into swamps that slow every enemy unit. Now entering the region cost additional Move point. A small thing, but might be very handy.
Official US release date is December 13th!
Continuous fighting between four factions of Trogs, Pilgrims, Machines and Humans has made the extraction of precious crystals very difficult. Every side is in a desperate need of new tactics, skills and leaders.
This is the point, where you come in and utilize those new additions to totally wreck your opponents. How will you use them, to achieve victory?
The most important additions are of course new structures, which allow new tactics. And that is not all! The Aftermath expansions offers:
– new Universal Structures
– new Faction Structures
– new two-sided Leader Boards
– new Scoring Events

Well, shoot. Sometimes small errors happen. We are sorry for that. Please rest assured, that this does NOT affect the gameplay in ANY way. There is a wrong illustration on the Camouflage token.
Camouflage token
The token currently looks like this:
And it should look like this:
Unfortunately all copies of the expansion were printed with the wrong illustrations. We have a couple solutions for you in this situation:
Print your own sticker
Here are four files:
– The first is a PDF in A4 format – printing it on a A4 sticker paper will result in a new token sticker in perfect size. You can then stick it on the wrong illustration and voilà.
– The second is PNG with the correct illustration, however you would need to make sure that you print it in right size ...
Ignacy would like to sum up his works on Aftermath expansion for Cry Havoc, as the Cry Havoc celebration month has just ended.
I could talk about expansions for hours. I have a quite a few under my belt and I learned a lot each time I designed one. Each time I sat at my desk with new ideas for expansion I did some mistakes. Most often it was giving too much. Most often trying too hard. Most often it was overdoing it. My personal record? I think it was Undead expansion for Stronghold. It basically doubled the amount of content in the base game and added new rules for every new piece. Instead of orcs, there were vampires, instead of heroes, there was a priest, instead of Victory Points, there was Time Victory Condition, instead of wood, there was mana… I literally took every single rule of the base game ...
Hey! As we celebrate 1 year of Cry Havoc on this world, we have for you a real treat – a official English rulebook in PDF form!
Check it out and tell us, what you think.
