Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island is the game that made Portal Games a recognizable brand, and allowed thousands of players to create their own version of the classic castaway story. With the second big expansion just around the corner, and a great BGG ranking, it is probably our most important title, with Detective quickly catching up. It is also a game with a lot of components, a lot of colourful markers, and a plethora of cards. Take a look at Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island.

Robinson Crusoe is coming to Dized

Robinson Crusoe is coming to Dized
Robinson Crusoe is going to be a part of the Dized app. We are super excited that you are going to have a new way to learn about this awesome game! Dized has been working on an app that aims to solve all rulebook related issues from board games with Rules and Tutorials. It has just reached a big milestone as they have published the first tools for the industry. This means publishers, like us, can create Rules and publish them on the Dized app, something that is now happening on a daily basis. And these are no ordinary rules, as Rules on Dized have a built-in FAQ with all the content being publisher approved, cross-referenced, searchable and updateable. In short, Rules on Dized is the quickest and surest way to solve any rule related issue! And in this case it means that you will be able to use Dized to survive ...

Carved Pawns Promo

Carved Pawns Promo
I don’t exactly know how it happened. Did the manufacturer come with this idea and send us a sample or it was my employee Greg who asked them to prepare it for us. I don’t know. What’s important, one day I found a pawn for Robinson on my desk. Man, it looked breathtaking. The dark brown wooden piece with a picture of character gently carved in the wood. That was one of the most thematic pieces for a game I have ever seen. ‘What is that?’ I asked Greg. ‘Do we want it? For our website or something?’ he smiled and asked. ‘Hell, yes, we want it!’ *** Then there was a small update with art so the carved picture looks great and the production started. A few months later my personal copy of Robinson Crusoe got upgraded. The pieces made it officially to our Loot Box set. I remember the first edition of Robinson Crusoe ...

Robinson Crusoe – review by The Board Game Family

Robinson Crusoe – review by The Board Game Family
Life sure isn’t easy on a deserted island. In fact, most of the time it can downright stink. But that isn’t to say there aren’t pleasures to be found. Such is the case with the Robinson Crusoe 2nd edition board game from Portal Games. It’s one of the hardest cooperative board games we’ve played. Yet it’s filled with so much adventuring theme and tough decisions, that we keep thinking about it long after we’ve played. It may seem like we’re on a deserted island kick this week because our last review, Hellapagos, is also a cooperative game with a deserted island theme. However, the two games are vastly different. Hellapagos is a quick game with social interaction where players are voted to perish or not fit on the escape rafts. While Robinson Crusoe is a deeper and longer adventure to explore, gather resources, make shelters, fight off beasts, withstand the bad weather, and generally survive ...

BTTS Archives – It better plays fast

BTTS Archives – It better plays fast
[I run this blog since July 2011. I’ve decided I will choose articles I like the most and republish them here to present them to all new board game fans that joined our hobby meanwhile! For all of you who already read the article, I hope, you will have a good time again with it! Today we go back to February 2013] In ‘my version’ of Robinson Crusoe setup for 4 players was: Take 2 Starting item cards and 2 No starting item cards. Shuffle them. Deal 1 card to each player. In that way players had fun since the very very beginning of the game – it was just like in those novels – they are on the beach and they are checking their pockets looking for anything valuable. Some of them have something, some of them nope. It didn’t make it to the final rules set. Why? Because it makes set up longer. ...

Robinson Crusoe Design Scenario Contest Winner

Robinson Crusoe Design Scenario Contest Winner
A few months ago we started the contest for the fan-created scenario. Since its release in 2012, Robinson Crusoe was lucky to have a ton of fan-created content. We encouraged players posting template files to make it easier for fans to build a scenario that looks just like the original one. We hoped for your creativity and man, we were not failed. There are so many amazing ideas on BGG. Last year Portal Games released a new edition of Robinson Crusoe and since then we increased promotion of the game. One of the ideas we had was to give shout out to all creative fans of the game. Hence, the contest. *** We received 12 entries. To be honest, we expected some poor ideas and good ones, we knew that it is going to be a crazy mix of different missions, some of which are poor and bad, some average, and we hoped that ...

What was your saddest failure in Robinson Crusoe? – Asking Fans

What was your saddest failure in Robinson Crusoe? – Asking Fans
A week ago we have asked you, what was your saddest failure in Robinson Crusoe? The time has come to share some of your unepic stories (original spelling): Stefano wrote: We once died by killing a dodo, because the one player that was at risk of drying didn’t have a morale token. So we killed a dodo, our cook died of sadness and we all followed him into the grave! Isabelle wrote: We still haven’t managed to beat the first scenario of Robinson Crusoe (the one where you need to pile wood). We thought we had it once… only to realize we had cheated by picking too many resources when gathering! Jay wrote: Well, that time with the weather… then there was that time with the weather… then, I mustn’t forget the time with the weather! Fantastic game Rob wrote: Solo game, Friday dead, final turn before ship arrives. One wound left, Wood pile ...

Welcome to PORTAL GAMES

We are bookworms. Movie maniacs. Story addicts. We grew up reading Tolkien, Howard, Herbert, Dick, Lem… We were watching Willow, Blade Runner, Never Ending Story, Robin Hood…

And yet, we don’t write books… we don’t make movies. We don’t make those things, because we make games. We make games that tell stories.
