Eleven Update #10. New language versions of Eleven!

Hi there!

Today’s big news is that we have confirmed two new language versions of Eleven. Read more in this update!

Chinese and Thai language editions of Eleven

This is REALLY EXCITING for all of us at Portal Games for two reasons. Not only are we increasing the number of languages for Eleven to a whopping 8, but we are also reaching gamers and taking part in spreading the hobby in Asia. Absolutely awesome!

This brings me to another thought. The theme of Eleven, even if slightly unusual for a board game, is wonderfully universal and allows us all to connect around the globe. Connecting people – that’s what the board game hobby is about 🙂

Offer for Retailers

If you are a retailer and would like to acquire Eleven for your store, please contact our sales team at hurt@portalgames.pl. We will be happy to assist you.

Today’s Daily Unlock is 8 new Opponent cards for the best teams.

The 8 best teams in the game—the ones you face in the first league—are just getting better. Each of these teams now gains an extra Opponent card, increasing the total number of variants per team to 5. This makes matches more challenging, unpredictable and increases the overall replayability of the game. New Opponent cards will be chosen from the best ideas proposed by the fans in this campaign.

This gameplay bonus is a Gamefound Exclusive Stretch Goal for Eleven. It won’t be a part of the retail version of the game. All Stretch Goals will fit into the box.

Now it’s time for Thomas Jansen, the designer of Eleven, to discuss the topic of the Board Meetings:
The board meeting

After a glorious or disappointing weekend, it’s Monday again. First thing in the morning, there is a meeting of the board of directors. Let’s go to the board room. Follow me.
You have 3 boards in front of you. The second board is the boardroom. There are 4 tracks that form the core of the game. They represent budget, fanbase, operativity, and form. Each Monday, the tracks generate 4 different resource types, which correspond with the tracks. For example, if your form track is at 4, you gain 4 form resources. etc. What can you do with these resources? We’ll get back to that later. Most important: You want to keep those tracks as high as possible. See those 3 empty chairs? We need to hire our directors first.

You probably thought you got to make all the decisions here right? Well, you’re wrong.
Before you start a game of Eleven, every player gets to choose 3 directors. They will form your board during the game. Take 3 cards, pick 1, give them to your neighbor, and so on, until you have 3. You need to choose wisely because these people will make the big decisions during the Monday board meeting. They also influence the starting positions of the 4 tracks. All have their own opinions about how to run a club well. Some will go for the money, others for the results on the pitch, some think the club belongs to fans and want to keep them as happy as possible.
During the first phase of the week (Monday) a board meeting happens. Every player takes a board meeting card from the deck. There is a dilemma with 3 options to choose from. Roll a die and look at the color of the dice with that result on the director cards. For example, you roll a 2. Two of your directors have yellow 2s and one has a blue 2. The directors decided to go for the yellow option. In the example on the right, this would mean your team gains 2 euros and a young player enters your squad! But at the same time, the fanbase track decreases by 3. The fans don’t want you to work with their hated rivals! There will probably be some empty chairs in the stadium next match. Maybe you should have chosen different directors?

Luckily there is a way to influence the board. Do you remember the fuss about the Super League a while ago? Remember most of the big clubs changed their opinions after a couple of days? Why did this happen? It was because of the fans.

One way to use the fan resource tokens is to make rerolls. Pay a token, to try to convince the board to decide differently.
In a Solo campaign game, you enter a club in which there is a board already. You need to deal with those guys. It’s part of the challenge.
Eleven is not only about the game of 90 minutes. It’s about so much more.

All those language versions of Eleven would not be possible without Filip. Here’s a quick intro about him:

Name: Filip
Favourite club: a few black horses
League: various
More about it: Filip deals with licenses. He is looking for games to be released in Poland and acquires partners for international cooperation.
With football at some point, he transitioned from a fan blissfully yelling during each match into a cold-hearted football analyst – following the table and reading the news. Instead of big clubs, he supports those which, despite a smaller budget, are able to create interesting football thanks to wise management and commitment. Sevilla, Leicester, Atalanta, and Atletico Madrid are his favorites at the moment.

Welcome to PORTAL GAMES

We are bookworms. Movie maniacs. Story addicts. We grew up reading Tolkien, Howard, Herbert, Dick, Lem… We were watching Willow, Blade Runner, Never Ending Story, Robin Hood…

And yet, we don’t write books… we don’t make movies. We don’t make those things, because we make games. We make games that tell stories.
