Brazil: Imperial

Take on the role of one of the great monarchs of the past, and show your valor! You will arrive in a vast and rich territory, but the road to prosperity is filled with challenges.

In Brazil: Imperial, you need to construct buildings, manage resources, explore the land, create trade, acquire the support of the greatest personalities of the country, and recruit a powerful army to protect your interests against the rival states. If you make the right choices, you can complete missions to progress to a more advanced era, receiving new and interesting options for development and victory points. In the end, the best monarch receives the title of Brazilian Emperor and constructs a new era of prosperity, freedom, and peace!

In more detail, while playing on a modular map board that recreates real regions, you use a combination of worker placement, area majority, and individual powers to construct an empire in Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries. You start by choosing one of the available monarchs and its personal game board and components; some monarchs are strong in combat, while others prioritize science or exploration. You receive tasks that advance your progress when you complete them, giving you access to more power constructions as you move into the second and third eras of the game.

Brazil: Imperial is a midweight strategic board game for 1-4 players introducing a new concept of the “euro X” game—combining a euro game, in which players collect and manage resources, with a 4X game, where players explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate.

The gameplay takes place in Brazil between the 16th and 19th centuries and is strongly tied to rich Brazilian history by bringing historical figures to the game. Each player takes on the role of a monarch working to build a prosperous nation and advance it throughout 3 eras.

Players send military units to explore and defend their territory, construct and renovate cities, farms, and mines, produce and trade resources—wood, sugar cane, cotton, and coffee, and acquire the support of historical figures from Brazil’s past to receive special powers. The game is played on a modular map and offers 8 different scenarios with various map setups recreating regions of Brazil, which are each well-tailored to different player counts.

Welcome to PORTAL GAMES

We are bookworms. Movie maniacs. Story addicts. We grew up reading Tolkien, Howard, Herbert, Dick, Lem… We were watching Willow, Blade Runner, Never Ending Story, Robin Hood…

And yet, we don’t write books… we don’t make movies. We don’t make those things, because we make games. We make games that tell stories.
