RULES: Stronghold 2nd Edition – Rules Reprint

We’ve been paying attention to the problems surrounding the rulebook for the past few weeks and are working hard to correct them. Today, I can announce, that we will be re-printing the rules for all copies of the game! Thanks to an unfortunate delay in shipping, we have the time to get these rules corrected, reprinted, and repacked  before the games leave our warehouse. All retail copies of the game will include these new rules!

Additionally, once the rules are reprinted, we will be offering replacement rules, free of charge, to anyone who purchased the game at Essen. I will put together a method for you to sign up to receive the reprinted rules and let you know when that happens.

For now, if you would like to help us edit, please find the latest rules below, check them out, and let us know of any more problems!

THANK YOU!

  • Hi there!

This is really cool, I bought a copy in Essen and sometimes found the rules a bit confusing. Some if the questions I had:

    * Does the hero order let you move units to buildings you cannot move units to according to the manual (to get the hourglass)? If that is the case, can you only move the guy away later or could you also do an exchange (e. g. you might want to send a green unit to a building, then exchange him with an archer on the wall later because there is no more space)?
    * Do spaces in the other two buildings actually limit the number of guys you can have there? And most importantly, can the color coded spaces in the barracks only be occupied by the according type of soldier? If so: The training option tells you to “replace” units – does the unit change its place while being upgraded?
    * What exactly is meant by the catapult’s description “target the Tower”? Is it the tower opposite of the catapult or one of the towers adjacent to the wall? Does it destroy anything that has been built there? What about guys standing on/in the tower?
    * Is it correct to assume that marksmen blessing still doesn’t allow marksmen in melee combat to shoot?
    * Is it correct that catapults destroy cauldrons but Orc detonation does not?
    * The available descriptions of the possession ritual all seem a bit inconsistent. Is the hero order discarded before being executed or after?
    * When will the tutorial video be released?

I just downloaded the PDF and noticed that the (upper/lower) case of the labels of the components page (2) seem a bit random: Invader Machine cards, siege tower tiles, Wall section components, etc. And btw., the file name says 1.2 but on the cover page it is 1.1.

Do you know what the rulebook needs in my opinion? That awesome Board Games Insider logo on page 15. 🙂

  • Do you mean that if I buy now I find the new version of the rules inside the game?

  • Hi,
when will the retail copies of the game be available in the stores? December? January? Later?
    Thank you.

  • Greatings,

this is great and truly much appreciated news! We just had a game last night – one of the tightest game experiences I ever had in my life… the revenge of the frenzied marauder goblin will long been remembered – however, even with the new rules we had some uncertain rulings:

    – how can I use the hero order, whichs sends units to “any building”? And more critical, how do I move them back on the wall? Since the rules say, I can only move from buildings to “adjacent” wall sections – but we were uncertain, if all/any buildings are adjacent to all wall sections or not.
    – sacrificing a unit for wood still grants a hourglass to the defender, right?
    – the card effect of the invader says: destroy two wall sections. Are we correct to assume, that the condition is met, if the invader manages to destroy all wall section components (wooden pieces) on two wall sections? What about cauldrons?
    – can we train, for example, 2 archers into spearmen within one round? Or does the comment (page 11) only clarify, that you can use both “training” actions?

I will double check, if I can add anything – but the list on BGG seems to be very conclusive.

    Zin
