Detective tips for first time players!

Hello Detectives!

While the game was released a month ago in the US, and many of you had a chance to play, the European release is yet to come (September 26 to be precise). This is a good time to talk about common tips and tricks in maximizing Detective experience. After all this game is all about the experience and immersion – there are five cases, and each of them you are going to play only once, maybe twice. Here is a list of ten very useful tips, to get the best bang for a buck:

1. If possible, set up in a room with a big screen and connect your Antares browsing device to it, so that everybody at the table can read the same clues. Remember that everybody can also login on the same account, and that you can disable the animations, if they drain your battery.

2. Assign the roles according to the last page of the rulebook. One person can have multiple roles!

3. Use dry erase boards or cork board to manage your notes.

4. Focus on Mind Map – note that it doesn’t need to be detailed, it should instead help you find details fast.

5. Keep your notes from every case.

6. Always remember your main goal of the case. Stray from the taken path only, when you have the time for it.

7. Take time. Think before you act.

8. Make sure you entered all encountered signatures into the Database. The Antares system should handle the rest – if your match is significant for the case, you will get additional notification.

9. Use logic. Read between the lines. Deduce. Make educated guesses. Even if it looks, like all of your options are equally good, there are always hints that determine which path is potentially more valuable.

10. Put on a nice music in the background. Prepare appropriate snacks and beverages. Dress up to the occasion. Create your own experience, and be ready to be immersed.

Thanks for the read. I wish you all a great time playing Detective.

Welcome to PORTAL GAMES

We are bookworms. Movie maniacs. Story addicts. We grew up reading Tolkien, Howard, Herbert, Dick, Lem… We were watching Willow, Blade Runner, Never Ending Story, Robin Hood…

And yet, we don’t write books… we don’t make movies. We don’t make those things, because we make games. We make games that tell stories.
