Cry Havoc – Photo Gallery

Who let the war dogs of war out? There lies before you the York Planet, full of valuable crystals. Riches of its soil are contested by two other invading armies and powerful, indigenous residents. Cry Havoc is a game with four asymmetrical factions, a lot of cards, minis, and a deep strategic gameplay. For a grim battle in space it looks really colorful… #bwg_container1_0 { display: table; /*visibility: hidden;*/ } #bwg_container1_0 * { -moz-user-select: none; -khtml-user-select: none; -webkit-user-select: none; -ms-user-select: none; user-select: none; } #bwg_container1_0 #bwg_container2_0 .bwg_slideshow_image_wrap_0 { background-color: #F2F2F2; width: 800px; height: 500px; } #bwg_container1_0 #bwg_container2_0 .bwg_slideshow_image_0 { max-width: 800px; max-height: 410px; } #bwg_container1_0 #bwg_container2_0 .bwg_slideshow_embed_0 { width: 800px; height: 410px; } #bwg_container1_0 #bwg_container2_0 #bwg_slideshow_play_pause_0 { background: transparent url("https://portalgames.pl/en/wp-content/plugins/photo-gallery/images/blank.gif") ...

Cry Havoc got to TOP10 best games reviewed by the Big Boss Battle!

Cry Havoc got to TOP10 best games reviewed by the Big Boss Battle!
In brief: Believe it or not, Cry Havoc spent almost all of last year as my favourite area control/Ameritrash game ever, until one of the higher ranked games came into my possession. What I love most about Cry Havoc is how it depicts four highly asymmetric forces battling for control of a planet in a way that is almost perfectly balanced. It plays fast, it looks awesome, it’s super aggressive and even though I am playing it less and less, Cry Havoc is still worth your time. Here’s my review.

Golden Geek Most Innovative Board Game Nominee, Golden Geek Best Thematic Board Game Nominee, Golden Geek Best Strategy Board Game Nominee… One of the hottest games of 2016. #CryHavoc. One year Gen con hit. Another year, old story, huh? I could talk long about that. How does the cult of the new hurt the industry and makes designers and publishers debate the need to develop games deeply. Today though I write about Cry Havoc. The game we all love at Portal HQ and we play on a regular basis. Cry Havoc has one of the most brilliant battle resolution systems ever designed, it has four insanely asymmetrical factions and a ton of replayability provided by all these skills and buildings. When I sat to design #LootBox, I knew we must include something for fans of Cry Havoc. I forced and pushed myself not only to please you, dear fans. I did it ...

Cry Havoc & teacher of the year

Geek&Sundry wrote an article about Daryl Durston, a physical education teacher in Ontario, California, who was named his school district’s P.E. Teacher of the Year. As it turns out, he lists Cry Havoc as one of his favorite board games. We are very happy to learn about that. This is a very inspiring story – click here to read it. Of course, Mr. Durston played a lot more games with his students and his list of favorites includes also titles like Dominion and Raiders of the North Sea, both great games. We believe we make games for board games geeks, so it is important to us, that there are people, who introduce young students into our hobby – the more of us are there, the easier it is for us to find someone to play, the more great games will be published and, in general, the more, the merrier! There ...

Cry Havoc 1st birthday and Aftermath Expansion
Cry Havoc is one year old! We are celebrating first birthday of Portal Games bestselling, brutal sci-fi action game – Cry Havoc! This is a great opportunity to play it – control war torn areas with card-driven, asymmetric, factions and, well, CRY HAVOC! Let us share some good memories and remember the past year, which has been a huge success. Last year we released Cry Havoc, not expecting, that it would be such a great success. By all means it was well deserved – it is a great game after all, but even in our wildest dreams we did not expect such an extraordinary reception. The game was nominated by many important organisations and won couple of important industry awards, to name the few: Goblin Magnifico 2017: Cry Havoc – Jury award, best boardgame published in 2016 Board Game Corner Nominee Origin Awards Nominee 2016 Golden Geek Most Innovative Board Game Nominee 2016 Golden Geek Best Thematic ...

ARTICLE: Cry Havoc Strategy Guide – Humans

This is part 4 in a series of strategy articles brought to you by the game’s original designer, Grant Rodiek. Welcome to the strategy guide for the Human faction of Cry Havoc. The Humans are the boogeymen of Cry Havoc, the invincible and overwhelming space marines with their cursed use of Drop Trooper cards and Airfields. This menace, while obvious and hard hitting like a well-wielded hammer, is not invincible. In some ways this guide may evolve less towards how to win with them, and more towards how to defeat them. I jest, because I’m a smart alek and cannot help it, but don’t lose heart when contesting the Humans. Cry Havoc is an asymmetric game, and all of the factions are rated on a curve of difficulty. The Humans are the most ...

Welcome to PORTAL GAMES

We are bookworms. Movie maniacs. Story addicts. We grew up reading Tolkien, Howard, Herbert, Dick, Lem… We were watching Willow, Blade Runner, Never Ending Story, Robin Hood…

And yet, we don’t write books… we don’t make movies. We don’t make those things, because we make games. We make games that tell stories.
